Green Tea and Health

Green tea's reputation as a healthy drink is due to its flavonoids. This tea has a higher average amount of flavonoids than other healthy beverages like wine and fresh fruit juices. The number of flavonoids in different teas can be very different.

Health effects and research

Cancer: A systematic review was conducted in 2012 and concluded that evidence that green tea can protect against cancer is 'insufficient and inconclusive.

Heart disease: Several studies have shown that this tea can reduce the risk factors for heart disease such as obesity, blood pressure, cholesterol, and excess weight.

Cholesterol: According to short studies, green tea may lower blood levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol.

Diabetes: There is evidence that green tea may be able to lower blood sugar levels. This has not been extensively tested in humans and further research is required.
