Steel recycling process:

While all forms of steel are recyclable, it should be noted that the recycling process differs from that of many other products. This is due to the value attached to steel – instead of going to a traditional landfill or recycling center, steel products are sold as compensation in exchange for scrap.

There are three main sources of steel scrap sold for metal scrap: household scrap, quick or industrial scrap, and old scrap. The residual steel is then melted and cleaned in a furnace at a temperature of about 3000 degrees to remove impurities from the residue. The molten steel is then hardened into sheets and prepared for shipping. The recycled metal can then be sent to various factories as raw material and the cycle starts all over again.
